With her long cinematic pans, Agnes Varda’s film Vagabond (Sans Toit ni Loi),and her filming style all together, have completely won me over. Though Vagabond was the first film I have seen by the Belgium/French director, I already have a line-up of others to watch.
Vagabond was one of the more beautiful (really beautiful, not idealistic) films I have seen in a while.

A favorite film of mine for some time now has been Nói Albinói from Icelandic filmmaker Dagur Kári.
There is a scene in the middle of the film of a fly crawling down his arms, crossing the wrists and moving to the next hand. The motion and the quietude of the scene makes it extremely powerful for me as omen and as human need for introversion, questioning, and examination of nature. The scene was shot during a day off when the director, one crew member and actor were on location. It is a great inspiration for me and reminder of the beauty and power of everyday occurrences along with the need to be open-minded and aware in making work.

The film is a bit experimental with a non-linear edit and most of the shots are spectacular. Well worth seeing, if you haven’t already.
